Donegal Oatmeal Cream at Sliabh Liag!

August 25, 2017 By Joy Ross Davis 1 Comment

Slieve League
Looking down from cliffs at Sliabh Liag

As a story teller, I am attracted to the cliffs at Slieve League and the Christian/Gaelic history that permeates the Irish countryside and brilliant views of the Atlantic Ocean. Characters are clamoring to tell me their stories and adventures on One Man’s Path and Pilgrim Path — dramatic hikes that demand more of walkers on a stormy day. Of course, my story will have at least ONE stormy day! My hero will take in the views from the cliffs dropping as much as 1500 feet to the ocean. He would enjoy the panorama of the Atlantic, around to the Sligo Mountains and bright Donegal Bay. Breezes would play with the blooms of the Nóíníní  and Seamair Dhearg and Seamróg (Daisies and Red Clover and Shamrock– summer wildflowers at Donegal Bay), reminding him of his “brideach milis bouquet bláthanna fiáine” — sweet  bride’s wildflower bouquet.Daisies - Wildflowers of Slieve League with Joy Ross Davis

If you walk with me, we could visit historic Donegal Castle together and enjoy the views from this 15th century castle built by the O’Donnell chieftain. We could get lots of photos, then walk back to our inn for a celebration serving of historic Donegal Oatmeal Cream! “Taitneamh a bhaint as uachtar mhin choirce Donegal ag Sliabh Liag” We can enjoy Donegal Oatmeal Cream at Sliabh Liag. Donegal Cream with Joy Ross Davis

One day clearly won’t be enough for me to be able to absorb the history and dramatic beauty of this mountain that has so many paths wandering over it and such larger-than-life views. If you are able to stay longer, we could get on one of the charter boats cruising the Donegal Bay to get a different, but no less impressive view of the cliffs from the water’s edge. And stop at one of the sweet, clear beaches along the edges of the bay.

MillerWords Says It All for The Beggar’s Miracle

March 24, 2017 By Joy Ross Davis 1 Comment

Joy Ross Davis - Inspirational Angelic FictionRecently, I enjoyed an insightful interview with MillerWords, “5 Questions — Joy Ross Davis.“

The interview was a pleasure because, of course, my interest in Ireland was featured along with my newly released novel, The Beggar’s Miracle published with MillerWords.  The Beggar’s Miracle revolves around orphanages in Ireland — The “Laundries”, a euphemistic title referring to the business side of the laundry ‘done’ for citizens…laundry of another type as piles of cash were included to pay for children by adoptive parents.  My heart, filled with love for Ireland, is moved by the imagination about experiences endured by the women and orphans in these institutions. A pair of my favorite ‘angels’ are active in this story to help rescue a needy, deserving and lovely young woman who thinks at that moment she has no hope. She does have hope (because my stories are rooted in Hope), she does prevail and enjoys the very best surprise as the story unfolds that any child could wish for.

Additionally, the questions were terrific, opening doors for unique answers that I want readers to enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed responding. There were no throw-away questions with typical and predictable answers.  I really appreciate MillerWords as publishers and for the creative way they think!

I’m so pleased to have The Beggar’s Miracle available for readers! This pleasure has stimulated my writing appetite incredibly and the new pages for the next novel are flying from my fingers to the keyboard!  Having a story to offer you, my loyal readers, encourages me beyond imagination.  Consider yourselves warned, there is much more to come!

There are two treats for you! One — enjoy the interview and learn some things about me and about The Beggar’s Miracle that have never been published. You’ll get a glimpse into suspicions and motivations for this story and for future stories involving paranormal experiences, particularly angels. As my supportive Angel Pack, you are always with me!

Two — treat yourself to a copy of The Beggar’s Miracle and enjoy a good read!

Remembering Ireland with Southern Writers

January 3, 2017 By Joy Ross Davis 1 Comment

"I'm a Southern Writer!" Joy Ross DavisIreland was a wonderful experience to share with my friend, Parris Afton Bonds. We both enjoyed making new acquaintances while I was able to catch up with friends from former times in Ireland.  The absolute best part was the true reason for going — the  Claddagh Author Event in Croke Park, Dublin.

I’m honored to have been invited to share about going to Ireland with readers of Southern Writers magazine.

Southern Writers magazine is beautifully presented information featuring writers who live and work in The South!   Readers appreciate the interviews and reviews while authors appreciated being part of a supportive community. It is always comforting to see one of my fellow authors featured in some part of the magazine.

Banner Flying for Claddagh Author Event

August 31, 2016 By Joy Ross Davis Leave a Comment

Parris AftJoy Ross Davis going to Claddagh Author Event, Dublin, IEon Bonds and I are getting serious about our upcoming travels to Dublin, Ireland for the Claddagh Author Event in Croke Park.

This banner (2.5 x 6 feet) will be going with us to decorate and announce the table where books will be displayed.

We’re anticipating the impressive Croke Park which is headquarters for the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA)and location for traditional Gaelic sports including football and hurling. (An Irish game resembling field hockey, played with a shorter stick with a broader oval blade. This national game of Ireland may date back to the 2nd millennium BC.).

The stadium where the Claddagh Author Event is being held has significant historic value for my ‘work-in’progress’.  I’m expecting special inspiration from spending time there..

Croke Park was established in the 19th century and named in Honor of Archbishop Thomas Croke. The park is often called Croaker by GAA fans and locals.

Parris and I will NOT be playing football or waving hurling sticks for sport! Croke Park has a wonderful event program that has received many honors as one of the best facilities for events such as the Claddagh Author Event. I hope you enjoy some of the footage and images shown on the Croke Park website.  There are links to the museum and historic side of this long-time favorite place in Dublin as well as modern video, images and news for the 21st Century.

Thank you for being loyal readers. I can’t stress more how much I appreciate you and hope you will tell your reader friends about my books so they can enjoy them too.

Ireland — Here I am!

August 12, 2016 By Joy Ross Davis Leave a Comment

As October days come racing down the calendar, I’m getting more excited by the moment. Being the only American author included in the Claddagh Author Event in Dublin’s Croke Park on October 8, 2016 has left me thrilled, distracted and busy planning. I know that the next few weeks will speed past as Ireland’s gardens begin to deliver colorful zinnias, Gerber daisies, aster and maybe some sunflowers among the bright drifting autumn leaves. I can close my eyes and picture all of the lovely sites awaiting me!

As you, dear readers know, I am deeply steeped in everything Irish — history, mystery, paranormal, food, scenery and more. This photo of the rugged Maghery Coast inspires me every time I see it. It seems as though many of you enjoy this view with me. The blues are truly that bright!Maghary-Coast - Ireland - Joy Ross Davis

Good friend, Parris Afton Bonds, plans to join me on this trip to Ireland. I anticipate renewing friendships that grew when I last lived in Ireland for too little time. Visiting some favorite places to steep the writing muse in atmosphere is a highlight of my “Irish plotting” — setting the scenes and anticipating actually being right on the favorite spot! I invite you to join me on my Facebook page to share my photos from the earlier trip and to keep updated in the moment. I’ll be posting some of the experiences I had while living in Ireland and writing travel articles in the blog.

I’m looking forward to the big day in Dublin meeting other authors and readers who will be touring the Claddagh event. This event has been popular for several years. When I see the posts on the Facebook page talking about all of the planning that goes into making an event for 200 authors, I’m more impressed than ever. And I appreciate the consideration that the committee members gave my pleas to be included.

I’ll be taking a few copies of some of my books — favorites trying to find their way into crowded luggage. I expect their places will be filled with some brilliant books from the Irish authors for the return flight.

Events such as Claddagh and some of the terrific events planned right in my Alabama neighborhood are truly an encouraging boost to authors who are permitted to participate.Being able to network with other authors and meet readers in person inspires a great deal of my writing. My appreciation grows with each one for the planners who put their hearts into bringing this off. I’m pleased to see the support the planners receive from their community at the Dublin Eventful website. (The name Dublin Eventful tickles me — someone who bubbles with fun must be behind that) The idea of flying to Ireland for a book fair has me walking on air while I appreciate all the work planners have put in for the entire year — they must be setting their ideas and imagination loose for the next year as they are wrapping up the current event.

Thank you for your patience with your giddy friend/author as I’m trying to keep myself calm, cool and collected. (It is NOT working!). Your friends may wish to get their own email updates on the Dublin trip….They can have that with free membership in the AngelPack. If you just share this post with them, they will have a link to the AngelPack page.joinpack-175-173x100
