I have enjoyed working with Murray Pura for the past couple years to build his series of stories based upon the historical events of the American War Between the States (Civil War) in the 19th century. The stories have been based upon family history, research and often focused on obscure day-to-day events that didn’t make it to the grand historical publications about these trying times.
In Olivia’s Wedding, for the first series, Murray Pura’s Cry of Freedom Series, I brought the fictional experiences of a family caught up in the battles surrounding their homes while trying so hard to maintain hope, home and future. Battlegrounds invaded the towns and farms of rural, FAMILY America. Readers have found the treatment of one family’s possible experience to be moving as it circles around the hopes and dreams of a young bride toward a twist at the ending. The Sutler of Gettysburg started a second series, Murray Pura’s Let Freedom Ring and tells a story based on research involving unusual individual service during the American Civil War. I enjoyed giving a favorite character type a memorable name and you can count on seeing more of Tucker D and maybe his kitten in the future. A sutler was important in the life of a traveling soldier — rather like the quick markets on the edge of town with unfairly high prices on the small bits that make life go on until a better day.
The Stonecutter’s Gift holds the eighth spot in the Let Freedom Ring series and involves an event that truly happened in Washington DC during the Civil War. Our stonecutter is a special person who has a GIFT and gives gifts as well. I hope you will enjoy the poignant truths of his love and devotion. Murray Pura and our publisher, Helping Hands Press bring an element of professionalism to the writing table that is wonderful for me to work with. They’ve been a major encouragement to me to keep producing stories for the readers who are beginning to watch for the next release.
I’m fortunate to have access to some excellent research materials focused on a time in history which intrigues and inspires the story-teller in my soul! When I’m researching or reading writers’ contributions, I truly become more convinced that there is nothing that our imaginations can produce which will trump the incidents that happened in real life.
